While I’m looking forward to the USM Foundation class on the 30th and the FREE workshop on December 6th, (still some open seats!) this morning I just want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

I’ve never owned a dog, and Cavin (the dog in this picture) is my neighbor’s dog.  I’ve been walking him twice a day because my neighbor broke her ankle, and while Cavin has yipped once or twice during a Zoom call, he’s really a nice pup.

He seems to listen to everything I say with a keen intensity. Maybe it’s just the treats in my pocket, but I still like it. Cavin has reminded me of an important lesson about listening.

Really listening.

This is a skill I have always had to work on, and as we’ve shifted from face-to-face meetings to Zoom videoconferences new challenges have emerged. For example, I’ve never had to encourage participants to switch from gallery view to speaker view, or reduce the size of the speaker window, etc.

I’ll also need to make sure we give folks (and me!) a chance to stand up and walk around for a few minutes every once in a while.  Of course, we’ll mix it up with videos, polls, chat and exercises to break things up.

I’m excited about the Unified Service Management method and look forward to having conversations with people. I look forward to all the questions and conversation but I think when it comes to USM…

Sometimes the questions are complicated, and the answers are simple.
